Modera - Richard Frinier Design Competition

The ICFA / Richard Frinier Design Scholarship was established in 2016 and is endowed by the renowned designer and his wife and partner, Catherine, to inspire design students in the creation of innovative outdoor living spaces for residential, contract and hospitality environments. The annual scholarship is awarded to the winner of an online competition in which college-level students submit their original designs for outdoor living products.
Designed as a response to the environmental impact of conventional outdoor furniture, this modular, fully sustainable chair reimagines flexibility and longevity through a circular design approach. Each element is crafted from recycled or responsibly sourced materials, avoiding harmful chemicals and plastics to reduce pollution and waste. The chair’s reconfigurable system invites users to adapt, repair, and repurpose it over time, promoting sustainable living through thoughtful, durable design.
